Shape and search and Google alerts are very much on my mind these days, what with Ursula Goodenough on Shape & Meaning. I'm seeing Goolge sitting there and pulling meme molecules off of the web that fit the receptor spots I've set up as alerts.

Volkswriter & Word

Let's try this again. My last attempt crashed.

Volkswriter was an early word processor for the PC. I may have used it. I do remember using a BASIC word proocessor published in (most likely) either PC Magazine or PC World. The blog/aggragator/personal publishing/social software is much like it was then only time ten or a hundred - enourmous creativity and lots of choices.

Will a Word arise out of this?

frassle has lots of things I like but for now it is so slow as to be unusable.

lord and sovereign

As of now, I am the only member of the Brookline i-neighborhood, and thus am, at last, lord and sovereign.

Brookline i-neighborhood

I was struck by how much this is religious language. It's from a non-religious person. But it makes me think of how much we anthropomorphize God. We make the ineffible something we know and understand. How much of this comes from and is justified by our being made "in God's image"?

del.icio.us/html/ bookmarklet

Drag this link:

del.icio.us/html/ bookmarklet

to your link tool bar or book marks. Then when at (for example) http://del.icio.us/mshook/music click on the bookmarklet and it will take you to http://del.icio.us/html/mshook/music

Actually http://del.icio.us/html/mshook/music only lists 15 entries, has an RSS button and no extended body text. This bookmarklet actually takes you to http://del.icio.us/html/mshook/music?count=10000&rssbutton=no&extended=body

Transparency into how things work

I have an abiding interest in how things work. In the old world, that meant, linkages and (maybe) magnets. In the current world that means source code. In the biological world and the future nanotech world, what does it mean? Simulations?

The Diet of Worms

483 years ago today: the Edict of Worms. When, where and how will Docs Searls and Weinberger and Messers Rage and Levine be tried?

Hope

If gays can marry, who knows what else is possible? What other freedoms might we grant? What other ways might we find to accept love?

Confusing Mythos & Logos

Karen Armstrong has suggested that fundamentalism (and secularism) confuse the mythos and logos that undergird human emotion and thought.
